AMSTERDAM MARATHON

Sunday 17 October 2010 the 35th edition of the Amsterdam Marathon will take place.

Before the marathon started everybody called a marathon with high potential, but fast times were spoilt by a stiff headwind.

Kamiel Maase
The Dutch record, set by Kamiel Maase in 2007, also was not broken. Hugo van den Broek returned after his injury and completed the marathon in 2.13.51. No less outstanding, however, were the results achieved by the 26,000 runners from 75 different countries who successfully completed their run.

Olympic Stadium
This years start and finish will be at the Olympic Stadium, right in front of the seats of honour. The Mizuno Half Marathon starts on the “Stadionweg”.The Menzis 7,5 km starts on the “Stadionplein”. Both runs will finish in the Olympic Stadium. The route will be more or less the same as last year. With its many highlights, the route through Amsterdam’s city centre would also fit a sightseeing tour at a slower pace, taking in the Olympic Stadium, built in 1928, the nature reserves on both sides of the river Amstel, the Maritime Museum, the historic canals, Rijksmuseum and the attractive Vondelpark which will feature twice during the marathon.
